Air Compressor for Printing Industry

There are several reasons why the printing industry needs a high-quality air compression system. Determining the best compressor will improve your service efficiency and profits through quality products. After working in the printing industry for a few years, it’s easy to take the importance of compressed air for granted. The printing process will not function properly without high or low-pressure compressed air. Regarding printing equipment, there are many types of air compressors, each with its own merits.

Application of Air Compressor In Printing

Whether industrial screen printing or paper printing, air compressors can play an essential role in your operation. They can power a variety of printing equipment in your facility. These printing tools can range from dryers to cylinders in the printing process. In addition to that, they can even help you with various packaging jobs.

To fully understand how they work, let’s look at the application of air compressors in printing equipment.

      screen printing
Most screen printers require an air compressor. These automatic screen printers rely heavily on the compressor because it powers many different components, such as the flash dryer and pressing unit. Any powerful air compressor will ensure that these parts move smoothly and reliably during printing without any damage.
      paper printing
The compressor also powers printing tools such as collators, paper drills, folders, printing presses, cutters, vacuum pumps, and cylinders. Compressed air is required for cleaning machines, lifting nameplates, pumping water, operating steam tables, and automatic casting machines. It is suitable for braking mechanisms, printing machines, folding machines, and other tension systems in the gravure printing space. Among other things, it helps with pre-programmed merging to complete the printed material. Inflatable clips do packing and bundling easier. After-treatment equipment, such as air dryers, air filters, etc., helps remove moisture and dust. This role is necessary when working with systems that need to be kept clean and dry.

Benefits of using an air compressor in printing

Many printing facilities use compressed air for various purposes. One reason is that it allows for pneumatic automation. The added functionality of applying compressed air to automate printing is astounding. Pneumatic automation has two distinct advantages:

Improve efficiency
save labor

When automation is present, one press operator can perform multiple tasks. These procedural practices also increase the effectiveness of the process and increase productivity. Automation often helps get the job done. For example, the pneumatic turntables in bookbinding plants are pretty repetitive. The use of commercial printers simplifies the stacking process. Workers who used to perform these mundane tasks manually can now perform higher-skilled functions.

Choose the best equipment for your air compressor.

Regardless of the printing operation, other components must support your air compressor. These components range from tanks that hold compressed air to dryers that remove excess and unwanted moisture. In addition to additional factors, some factors of the air compression environment should also be considered. Before getting the compressor you want, check its loudness, footprint, and power requirements. The last factor is significant because an efficient system is crucial.

What are the types of air compressors used in printing?

Any reliable compressed air supply is essential for first-class printing and pneumatic presses. Considering so many factors, looking at every air compressor can be confusing. But you don’t have to worry because we will make it easy for you to understand. The various air compressors used in printing equipment are listed below.

Reciprocating Air Compressors: These compressors work on an advanced reciprocating system indicating forward and reverse motion. They are also called piston compressors when they increase the pressure in the air to compress it. When you look at the cylinder head, you see the closed end of the cylinder. This closed end of the cylinder is connected to a free piston. Reciprocating air compressors typically run on energy from a diesel engine. In the case of these compressors, lubrication acts as a cooling mechanism. This lubricating oil undergoes a cooling process in the engine oil cooler and circulates throughout the compressor.

Oil-Injected Screw Air Compressor: This compressor is suitable for the pneumatic needs of screen printing services. Compared to reciprocating air compressors, rotary oil-lubricated screw compressors are more modern. We know they are more expensive than traditional air compressors, but they also have many advantages. In these rotary screw compressors, lubricants serve four primary purposes. The oil enters the jet’s compression chamber and cools the machine. At the same time, it provides adequate lubrication for all moving parts, adequate sealing, and helps reduce noise. Additionally, the thermostat maintains a nearly constant temperature by regulating the amount of oil flowing to the lube cooler.

Oil-free screw air compressor: This air compressor ensures no oil in the compression chamber. In this configuration, the two individual rotors remain separate at all times. Also, their position is constant due to lubricated timing gears outside the compression chambers. This mechanism ensures that the output of the air compressor is completely oil-free. For water-injected oil-free screw air compressors, water can perform oil’s duties, such as cooling and lubrication. Oil-free screw air compressors include 2~5bar oil-free screw air compressors, 30~40bar oil-free screw air compressors, 7~10bar oil-free screw air compressors, and ultra-energy-saving series (8~40bar).

Many advantages make using compressed air in modern printing machinery mature and perfectly combined, making printing machinery more simplified, easier to operate and manage, and more automated. With the increasing use of compressed air in printing equipment, implementing air compressors in the printing industry has broad prospects.

Common Equipment for the Printing Applications

If compressed air is used in the printing industry, we recommend a 100% oil-free air compressor with a refrigerated air dryer and filter.
For low-risk compressed air in a production line, an oil-lubricated air compressor with a refrigerated air dryer and filter can be an option if you are on a budget. Still, in the long run, oil-free air compressors not only produce high-quality, oil-free air compressors Clean air but with lower maintenance and energy costs.
